    Superb

We booked a double room (the hotel's smallest) and it was by far the biggest, most luxurious room we stayed in during our Japanese holiday. Terrific bed, beautiful Pola bathroom products, great aircon, small balcony. Had dinner in the Japanese restaurant - Nakamon? - and it was odd and expensive. Breakfast was included with our package. Had this in the French restaurant and it was fantastic. Used the onsen a couple of times. Wish we'd stayed two nights.

Not so much a complaint but a warning - the meal at the Japanese Restaurant was odd. Beautifully presented, but the meal was tiny. We had choice of 5.30 and 7.30 and at 8 were asked if we wanted anything else as the kitchen was closing. Bottled wine was hellishly expensive. Restaurant itself is huge and noisy (even with small amount of tables and patrons) - hard surfaces everywhere - floors, ceiling, walls, no table clothes, timber chairs, huge amounts of glass. Again, odd.

    Superb

Top quality hotel in a tranquil setting. The free onsen (hot baths) are large and relaxing (no bathing wear is allowed, so there are separate facilities for men and women) The room was well equipped and comfortable, with free Internet (wired only) and English tv channels. The balcony is a plus and worth having a lake view if budget permits. The restaurants provide top quality if slightly expensive menus. There is a 7-11 in the nearby village.

The hotel is somewhat isolated, although there are daytime buses and taxis available in the evening. Out of season, restaurants in the resort and nearby villages are only open for lunch, so you may be limited to the hotel in the evening. At certain times of year the resort is covered in cloud due to its altitude, so the view may be restricted. Curiously the hotel charges $5 for an ice bucket to be delivered to the room?

    Superb

Had to make a change to our booking as two guests flight was delayed, staff were very accomodating, and did not charge a cancellation fee. Lake Ashi is beautiful, the open air onsen geat, french restaurant breakfast and dinner were fab. Many people had warned the dinner was expensive, but we found the food amazing, and good value for money. Yes more expensive than your average meal at a Japanese family restaurant, but for a high quality meal, perfect.

We asked for a non-smoking room, which it may have been but it smelt a little of stale smoke. Free shuttles from the hotel to the closest towns might be nice, as the hotel is sort of not near anything, and difficult to get around without a car.

Rooms are large and clean. Spa was excellent and well managed.Location was good if you drive as access by buses was difficult.

    Location a little inaccessible.

Quiet and comfortable place to stay for the holiday or weekends. Shuttle bus available for getting to the hotel from the Odawara jr station, needs email reservation through the hotel webpage; Quiet locations surrounded by forests and just aside the Lake Ashi; Luxury hotel while the room cd speakers are Marantz; Free hot spring (Outdoor with ceiling) if you wear brown costumes found in the room; Breakfast of either western or Japanese styles, many delicious choices. Bus available to get out, bus terminal is close too. Don't forget to pick the time table from the reception.

A bit far from the traditional Hakone tourism sites.

    Superb

The location was absolutely beautiful. The room had large windows facing the lake and mountains, and when taking a little walk down to the lake we could see Mt Fuji very clearly. The room was also very spacious with a separate toilet and bathroom, a small pantry and a big couch. Beds and pillows were comfortable, amenities were excellent. The very picturesque and quaint village of Motohakone was only a five-minute drive away. We enjoyed our stay very much.

The location is beautiful, but very inaccessible. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone without a car - the hotel is near Motohakone, but can only be accessed via a long winding road in which I imagine would be terrible to walk when the buses stop running. The hotel's restaurants seem pricey, so if you don't have a car, you might be restricted to dining only at the hotels. Therefore, recommended only for those with private transport.

    Superb

Luxurious hotel, in quiet location. A huge complex but with great onsen (Japanese spa). Gormet restaurants, but nothing if on a budget, just a cafe open from 11 to 4pm. It's a lovely location on the lakeside (can take a tourist boat around the lake) and a cablecar within 200 metres to the top of the hill. A quiet retreat from Tokyo, a breath of fresh air and glorious countryside.

Food in restaurants is around 50 Euros per person for a 4 course meal, but nothing for a price range under that. Very isolated. The spa treatments are very expensive (up to 300 Euros for a facial and massage).
